On
June 1, the Strake Foundation announced a generous grant of $4,000
in support of CCC’s Youth After School and Summer Camp Programs.
The Strake Foundation (formerly the Strake Charities Trust) was
founded by Mr. George W. Strake, a Texas oilman and philanthropist
who left the majority of his estate to the Foundation when he died
in 1969
Established in 1995, CCC’s Youth Program addresses an urgent need
for year-round academic, enrichment, and community service
opportunities, and currently serves nearly 250 at-risk youth and
more than 50 teen volunteers annually.
The
Strake Foundation’s contribution will enable CCC to further engage
Southwest Houston youth in productive, structured activities both
with their peers and adult mentors, minimizing the risks of gang
involvement and providing experience in leadership and teamwork. We
are truly grateful for the Foundation’s outstanding commitment to
the Houston community and continued support of CCC’s efforts “to
bridge East and West by enriching families with educational,
cultural, and social service programs.”
