Chinese Zodiac

The Lunar New Year is named after an animal from the Chinese Zodiac. There are twelve animals. Each year is named after a particular animal, and the cycle repeats every twelve years.The twelve animals, in order, are:  Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

 

Rat in Chinese

Rat:  People born in the Year of the Rat work hard to achieve their goals. They are imaginative, charming and truly generous to those they love. (1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008)

Ox in Chinese

Ox:  People born in the Year of the Ox are patient, speak little and inspire confidence in others. Generally easy-going and conservative, they are natural born leaders. (1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009)

Tiger in Chinese

Tiger:  People born in the Year of the Tiger are deep thinkers, capable of great sympathy. They are courageous and smart, and they are respected by other people. (1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010)

Rabbit:  People born in the Year of the Rabbit are talented, ambitious and articulate. They are virtuous, reserved, trusted, and are often financially lucky. (1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011)

Dragon in Chinese

Dragon:  People born in the Year of the Dragon are energetic, intelligent, and successful. They are also honest and brave, and they inspire trust and confidence. (1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012)

Snake in Chinese

Snake:  People born in the Year of the Snake are usually considered clever, passionate, determined, and romantic. They often help those who are less fortunate. (1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013)

Horse in Chinese

Horse:  People born in the Year of the Horse are hardworking, intelligent, and popular. They also tend to be wise, cheerful, and perceptive. (1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014)

Sheep in Chinese

Sheep (Ram):  People born in the Year of the Sheep are creative, elegant, honest, and warmhearted. They are also wise, compassionate and gentle. (1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015)

Monkey in Chinese

Monkey:  People born in the Year of the Monkey are entertaining, skillful, and intelligent. They are always well liked and make close friends. (1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016)

Rooster in Chinese

Rooster:  People born in the Year of the Rooster are courageous, hardworking, shrewd and talented. They are devoted and have a thirst for knowledge. (1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017)

Dog in Chinese

Dog:  People born in the Year of the Dog are honest and possess a deep sense of loyalty. They are intelligent and are bound to be successful in life. (1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018)

Boar in Chinese
