Modeled after the highly successful New Path Foundation companionship project called Wan Yuan in China and India, the Chinese Community Center has embarked on a new project to “serve with love” targeted at seniors within the Houston Community. The brain child of Randy Yeh, CEO and Founder of New Path Foundation, and CCC Board Member, Frank Chou, the goal of the project is to provide loving accompaniment for disadvantaged people by pairing them with committed volunteers in a long-term way. Volunteers, motivated by love and respect, meet one-on-one with
their matched seniors, providing a regular companion.
The
goal: Encourage citizens regardless of age, race, income
or disability to engage in community service. The goal is to meet social
needs of the seniors and to provide a high quality volunteer experience that
will enrich lives.
Participants must be:
- 70 years or older;
- Good to fair health without
any contagious diseases;
- Open to communication.
Volunteers must be:
- Willing to have a mandatory background check performed;
- Able to access
transportation to companionship site;
- Able to commit to one year
of regular visits, lasting up to two hours per visit;
- Able to work with seniors
one-on-one;
- Willing to serve from the
heart, without any desire for compensation.
